How to import from Yoast SEO to Local Lift SEO

Switching SEO plugins sounds risky. You have spent months tuning title tags, meta descriptions, and focus keywords across dozens of pages. The last thing you want is to lose that work — or break rankings — during a migration.

What the import includes

The import tool at Local Lift → Tools → Import pulls the SEO data you have already configured in Yoast or Rank Math:

  • SEO titles — custom title tags per page and post.
  • Meta descriptions — your existing snippets carry over.
  • Focus keywords — preserved for reference during editing.
  • Robots/noindex settings — per-page indexation preferences where applicable.
  • Social metadata — Open Graph and Twitter fields where stored by the source plugin.
  • Canonical URLs — when set in the source plugin.

After import, Local Lift becomes your standalone SEO plugin. You do not need Yoast active to keep your data — but we recommend keeping it active until you have verified the migration.

How to import from Yoast SEO — step by step

  1. Install Local Lift SEO. Download from WordPress.org or upload the plugin zip. Activate it alongside Yoast — both can run during import.
  2. Set up your main business profile. Go to Local Lift → Main business and enter your name, address, phone, hours, and service area. This is separate from the Yoast import but essential for local features.
  3. Open the import tool. Navigate to Local Lift → Tools → Import.
  4. Select your source. Choose Yoast SEO (or Rank Math if that is what you use).
  5. Review the preview. Confirm which post types and fields will be migrated before running.
  6. Run the import. Depending on site size, this may take a few seconds to a couple of minutes.
  7. Spot-check key pages. Open your homepage, top service pages, contact page, and blog posts. Verify titles and descriptions in Local Lift → SEO on each.
  8. Connect Google Business Profile. Import handles on-page SEO data — GBP is a separate step under Local Lift → Integrations. Requires HTTPS.
  9. Run the NAP checker. Confirm your site NAP matches GBP after setup.
  10. Deactivate Yoast. Once satisfied, deactivate and optionally delete Yoast SEO. Local Lift is fully standalone.

Importing from Rank Math instead

What to verify after import

Do not assume a successful import banner means every edge case transferred. Check these manually:

  • Homepage — title, description, and schema output.
  • Contact page — NAP visible on page matches your business profile.
  • Top 5 service pages — titles, metas, and indexation settings.
  • Blog posts — especially high-traffic articles.
  • Noindex pages — staging, thank-you, or utility pages that should stay out of Google.
  • XML sitemap — confirm /wp-sitemap.xml is accessible and submitted in Search Console.

Common migration questions

Will I lose rankings if I switch plugins?

Not if your titles, metas, and indexation settings transfer correctly. Rankings depend on content, relevance, and trust signals — not which plugin outputs the meta tags. Verify key pages after import and monitor Search Console for a few weeks.

Can I run both plugins permanently?

We do not recommend it. Two SEO plugins can output duplicate schema, conflicting meta tags, and duplicate sitemap logic. Use Yoast only during migration, then deactivate it.

Does import include WooCommerce product SEO?

Local Lift is built for local service businesses, not ecommerce-first stores. If you run a hybrid site, verify product page metas manually after import. For pure ecommerce SEO, Yoast or Rank Math may still be the better primary tool.

What if I already deactivated Yoast?

The import reads Yoast’s stored post meta from the database — Yoast does not need to be active. However, if you deleted Yoast and its data was removed, the import cannot recover lost meta. Reinstall Yoast temporarily if meta still exists in the database, or restore from backup before migrating.
